Wellbeing or well-being?
Wellbeing or well-being? Female entrepreneurs, it doesn't matter how you spell it! Your success and longevity depends on it. So, now is the time to put your overall wellbeing front and center with these three easy steps...
Prioritize Your Overall Wellbeing With These Three Easy Steps
2021 is a year when many of us will begin to recognize the sheer value and importance of our health and wellbeing. The worldwide Coronavirus pandemic has drawn our attention to being our healthiest.
Of course, being healthy requires several categories of decision-making in all areas of your life. So, let’s take a look at a few ways of improving your overall wellbeing in 2021 and beyond!
Check Your Senses
It’s absolutely essential that you check your senses every now and then. The two most important are sight and hearing.
Now, you should attend an eye examination once every two years. This is an easy commitment. The test itself will generally only take between half and hour to an hour from start to finish.
- Sure, you might have a busy schedule.
- Sure, you might feel that you’d rather spend your time doing something else.
But this really isn’t too much to ask when it can have such a positive impact on your overall wellbeing. Your eye test can help to identify and diagnose conditions that may need to be treated, such as:
- Glaucoma
- Cataracts
- Diabetes
An eye test can also help to identify changes in your eyesight or issues with your eyesight, like short sightedness or long sightedness. If you find any issues, your optometrist can prescribe lenses.
When it comes to hearing, you only need to attend a hearing test if you notice changes or deterioration in your hearing. Again, the tests are relatively short. If any issues are identified, your audiologist can recommend hearing aids and accessories for hearing aids.
Eat A Balanced Diet
First and foremost, you should focus on eating a healthy and balanced diet. Everyone is well aware that a balanced diet is essential for overall health and wellbeing.
A good place to start is calculating that you are eating the right amount of calories. This serves as a good rough guide to determine whether you are under-eating or overeating.
Of course, you should not micromanage your calories consumption, unless you have been advised by a doctor for health reasons. Instead, calories serve as a good idea of what you should be eating.
The amount of calories that you as an individual need to lead a healthy lifestyle will largely depend on personal factors like:
- Age
- Gender
- Activity levels
If ever in doubt, ask your doctor or nutritionist for help. But for the time being, the guide below should serve as a good starting point.
- Children aged 2 to 8 - 1000 to 1400 calories
- Girls aged 9 to 13 - 1400 to 1600 calories
- Boys aged 9 to 13 - 1600 to 2000 calories
- Active women aged 14 to 30 - 2400 calories
- Sedentary women aged 14 to 30 - 1800 to 2000 calories
- Active men aged 14 to 30 - 2800 to 3200 calories
- Sedentary men aged 14 to 30 - 2000 to 2600 calories
- Active adults over 30 - 2000 to 3000 calories (Generation X & Boomers)
- Sedentary adults over 30 - 1600 to 2400 calories (Generation X and Baby Boomers)
Get Sufficient Exercise
We all need to fit our recommended weekly exercise into our routine. No matter how busy you are, or how little you may think you enjoy exercising, you really need to make sure that you’re fitting it in. The recommended:
- 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise a week, OR
- 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise each week
There are a number of ways that to achieve this.
Many people will join a gym to use the equipment and get a full and thorough workout. If you don’t enjoy the gym, or don’t have the funds available for a gym membership, you may want to consider:
- Jogging
- Running
- Cycling
- Other outdoor activities
If you enjoy socializing, adding a social element to your fitness routine may help. Consider classes at a community center or sports clubs. If you struggle to motivate yourself and stick to your workout plan, you may want to consider hiring a personal trainer to guide and encourage you.
Put simply, there’s some sort of exercise out there for everyone. It’s just a matter of trial and error and finding what works best for you!
Conclusions On Your Overall Wellbeing
These are just a few suggestions that could help you along the way to leading a healthier lifestyle. Each tip could make a significantly positive difference to your day to day life, so they’re more than worth a try!
An additional consideration: If changes are challenging for you, find a buddy or accountability partner and make the changes together and keep each other on-track.
