A first look at what the new Facebook Timeline is going to do for Brands.  Join me in this overview to see how they will look and work for your business. I'll take it step by step so that you'll be ready to go when Facebook takes it live in March!

Facebook Moved The Cheese...Again!

We knew it was coming...

Sure we heard rumors...

But most did not think it would be released so quick!

Facebook Timeline - Your Brand's "Mission Control"

On February 29, 2012 Facebook held the fMC Conference and Livestreamed it for everyone to watch.

It was there, they confirmed the release of Timeline for business brands, and gave insight to new and upcoming features:

  • New page design.
  • Reach Generator.
  • Facebook Premium.
  • Offers.
  • Mobile compatible.

Idea Girl Media explains Facebook Timeline for Business Pages - Express your identity and tell your stories

They explained Facebook Timeline for brand pages as the "mission control" for everything on Facebook.  They designed it as a mechanism to express your identity as a business brand and to tell stories that reflect your brand.

Even more important - The Timeline is designed to inspire others to do the talking for your brand.  So, brands that have not had good stories to tell in the past are going to have to get their act together!

But the tools are nice.  You can now:

  • Pin posts.
  • Highlight posts.
  • Journal your brand history.
  • Put links and images in places you could not before!

Facebook Timeline: Publishing Your Brand Page

Facebook offered Facebook Page admins the opportunity to preview their new Timeline, and refer to their old design.  Many have considered this a daunting and puzzling process.  Some even nervous about publishing their brand's Timeline.

So, why not actually show you how easy it can be to publish the Timeline?

Outlined in the video below are highlights of the new Facebook Timeline for Business Pages:

An additional tip:

The size of logo image (profile thumbnail) is 180 x 180 (not 150 x 150 as mentioned in the video).

I'm actually quite excited about the opportunities that Timeline offers my business brand.

What questions do you have?

What still makes you nervous about Timeline?

Please tell me in the comments box below...  :)

Lindy, Thank you for sharing your question. Are you able to get me a Facebook Page name to look at? Are you working from an old Facebook page, or trying to create a new one? It may be that your page is already converted over to Timeline format. It could be that your personal profile did not convert automatically yet – And sometimes these two are confused. Facebook is not known for it’s customer service. I’ll look forward to hearing back from you, ~Keri

Sad to hear about that most of the people do not like timeline, my friends do not like it because they find it complicated but for people who do business on Facebook, this is best.

Ava, Many people are still grumbling about Timeline. But more and more are beginning to see the benefits and using it with more enthusiasm. Facebook Pages are still seeing some tweaks and adjustments, so it’s still “settling in” time. I believe in a few months, we’ll begin to see more and more report happy thoughts. Thanks for reading, and for your comment, ~Keri

Alexarie, I can imagine that Facebook Timeline is trending, with the news of Facebook’s purchase of Instagram. You are correct. Many people are not happy. Lets be honest – They took this thing that people finally had a handle on, and made a confusing soup for them to decipher. The layout isn’t even user-friendly, and it’s hard to follow as an owner/admin, if I might be honest. There are some advantages, as you say. I’d expect there to be some tweaks and then we’ll all feel a bit more happy. 🙂 Thanks for your comment. ~Keri

Tommy, The video does include actually publishing the page. It could be that Facebook was working on updates when you were hoping to publish, and it did not show you the typical screens. Or you might be trying to publish from a place other than the “home” place of where your page exists in Facebook. There are also other possibilities here. I would recommend logging out of Facebook, starting from a fresh window, and then beginning at your personal profile. Once there, head immediately to your page, and you should see the screen that prompts you to publish. I’ll be in touch with you to be sure you’ve been able to publish successfully. Can’t wait to see your published page, Tommy! ~Keri

Hanna, Thanks for your kind words. Many did not prefer the Timeline format at first. I like it for personal use, but feel for brands, it’s confusing. ~Keri

Cley, Glad you are having fun with Facebook’s Timeline! I would think that anyone that experimented with it on their personal profile for a time would find it easier to transition on the Facebook pages for business brands. Telling stories is the entire point. A nice feature for relating with fans. Thank you for reading and for sharing your thoughts, ~Keri

Sandra, If you do not click the publish button now, you will be able to preview your old design and still view your Timeline version – Until March 30, 2012. On March 30th, it will automatically convert to Timeline. Is that a good thing? Not sure. Page Admins should be planning for cover images, logos, seasonal presentations, etc. No need to rush, though, unless you are a social media professional. Hope that helps. 🙂 Thank you for your comment, ~Keri
