Searching for the best home office setup for productivity? Today, most entrepreneurs are interested in home office productivity. Here's how to make your workspace more productive for your personal and professional sanity...

Entrepreneurs and business leaders, are you prioritizing home office productivity?

Working from home can be a dream come true for many people. It allows you to:

  • Save money on transportation costs
  • Avoid morning and evening commutes
  • Spend more time with family

However, remote working can also be challenging if you don't have the right home office productivity tools to stay efficient. You might start with a home office setup checklist to get started and keep for future reference, should you ever need an inventory for taxes or other purposes.

This article discusses six smart tips for achieving super home office productivity as well as create and maintain an effective home office.

Dedicated Workspace

Trying to work from your couch or your bed can be tempting, but this will only lead to distractions and decreased productivity. Instead, a dedicated workspace will help you stay focused and complete more work.

If you don't have an extra room you can use as an office, consider setting up a specific space in your living room, bedroom or another part of the house where you can work without interruption. Choose a spot with good lighting, free from distractions like television screens and noisy household appliances.

Once you've selected your workspace, make it comfortable and ergonomic.

For example, invest in a high quality chair that supports your back and arms. If possible, position your computer screen at eye level to avoid neck strain. And be sure to keep your office space tidy and organized to help you stay focused on-task.

Keep Regular Office Hours For Optimal Home Office Productivity

Set regular hours and stick to them. One of the benefits of working from home is that you have more flexibility when it comes to your work schedule. This can be a double-edged sword if you're not careful. Your family and the people you serve need to know when you will be engaged in work-related efforts. Committing to a schedule will also help you stay focused and prioritize the work and personal activities at the best times.

If you have young children at home, you may need to be flexible with your work hours depending on their ages and schedules. But maintain a consistent work schedule as much as possible so that your days are predictable and productive.

It's also important to take breaks throughout the day, just as you would if you were working in a traditional office setting. Get up, stretch your legs every few hours, and take a lunch break away from your desk. These mini-breaks will help you stay refreshed and focused for the rest of the day.

Tip Top Tech

Keep On Top Of Your Tech For Optimal Home Office Productivity

Technology is a huge part of working from home, so one of the first things you should do is set up your computer and other devices with best security and functionality.

This means:

Having a backup plan for when things go wrong is also a good idea. For example, if you rely on your computer for work, have a laptop or tablet that you can use in an emergency. And if you work with sensitive data, consider investing in a secure cloud storage solution to keep your files safe.

Adequate Lighting

When you work from home is that you can control your environment. This includes:

  • Temperature
  • Noise levels
  • Lighting

While it may be tempting to work in complete darkness, this can lead to eye strain and headaches.

Instead, make sure your workspace is well-lit. Consider investing in a quality desk lamp or placing your computer near a window to take advantage of natural light during the day. If you find yourself working late into the evening, be sure to take regular breaks to give your eyes a rest.

Lighting can also impact your mood, so choosing light sources that promote focus and comfort is important. For example, blue-light filtered bulbs can help reduce eye strain and promote better sleep at night.

Internet Connection

There's nothing worse than trying to get work done only to be met with a slow or unreliable internet connection. If you're unhappy with your current service, consider switching providers or upgrading your plan. You'll be glad you did when you can finally stream video conferences without buffering issues.

If you work with large files or frequently need to download data, consider investing in a dedicated business class internet connection. This will give you the speed and reliability you need to stay productive at home and meet business commitments.

Prioritize Self Care

Working from home can be demanding, both mentally and physically. So, it's important to take care of yourself -- inside and outside the office.

This means:

  • Eating healthy meals and snacks
  • Exercising regularly
  • Getting enough sleep

It also means taking daily breaks to clear your head and relax. If you start to feel overwhelmed, don't hesitate to reach out for help from a:

  • Trusted friend
  • Family member
  • Qualified professional

Self care is essential for all areas of your life.

I like your suggestions for creating a workspace. If you don’t have an extra room, consider turning a storage room, a garage, or loft into a home office. The main benefit here is that you have a whole separate and distinct space in your home to dedicate to work. When you enter, you’re at the office. When you exit, you’re at home.

Thank you for sharing such helpful and relevant content! I want to add one more tip – make sure that your environment isn’t too visually distracting either. Chaos in a workspace can easily pull your focus away from work that needs to get done. Choose a work area that doesn’t have a view of messes or a cluttered desk, try finding a cozy corner to really hone in on work, or if the outside isn’t too busy and distracting, slide up to a window and take in some sun while you work. The next step would be to avoid clutter on your own desk. Anything you’re not actively using is better kept out of your workspace.
