Creating content can be fun but not everyone who sets out to create content comes up with great pieces. The reason for this is not because their grammar is poor but mostly because they cut corners.

If you are passionate about a topic, you will be able to come up with great content and topics for content writing. However, if you are just starting out, there are a few tips you need to understand.

This post discusses content writing tips professional writers know that will help you be more influential in content writing.

Stay In Research Mode

When working on a topic you are knowledgeable in, it is easy to be tempted to write everything from your head. As much as this will save you time and make your content look original, may not be the most optimal way to approach content writing.

No man is an island. You do not know everything. In order to create content that is filled with great ideas, you have to do some research. The quality of your content will increase significantly when it is based on solid research.

Be Original

Original content goes a long way in boosting your search engine ranking and compelling customers to come back for more. The Google algorithm has updated to enable detection of duplicate content. If your content is not original, you will be penalized.

Even when you have to create content from published content, you need to make sure that you are original. Add points that were not in the original post and make sure that you don’t copy-paste anything. Your business or organization will stand a better chance of winning more customers if you take the time to always create content that is original.

Content Writing Tips: Create Strong Headlines And Subtitles as explained by Derek Iwasiuk at Idea Girl Media

Content Writing Tips: Create Strong Headlines And Subtitles

First, the headline of your article is what determines whether your target audience will be interested in reading it or not. 80% of your audience will read your headlines but only 20% will actually read the content.

Creating riveting headlines is the key to making sure that your content is read.

Second, you need subtitles. Most people are skimmers. They will seldom read through an entire article, regardless of how concise or informative it is. They will go straight to the points that are relevant to their situation.

Adding subheadings keeps your audiences glued to your content.

Use Resources

People don’t want to waste time on farfetched ideas. If your content does not contain any resources or references, readers may view it as a work of fiction.

Most people will not consider any content that lacks proof. This is why even when you have all the points in your head, you need to search the Internet and find links that back your points.

Provide Answers

Last but not least, your content needs to give answers. This is the key to effective content writing. If you don’t solve any of your audience’s problems, they will not act on your content.

Research is always the key to crafting great content. However, you must start by identifying the plight of your audience.

You should then proceed by giving solid answers.

A Summary Of Content Writing Tips

People search for answers.  They consume content that helps them solve a problem or explore an interest that is very important to them.  Professional content writing tips to remember:

  • Research
  • Be original
  • Use headlines and subtitles
  • Affirm your points with resourceful proof
  • Provide answers

I really appreciate this article. And It confirms a few things to me. I was wondering about subtitles for skimmers and whether or not this would be a great way to give bullets to my “audience” in order for them to pick what they want to read on any given post. While I am a skimmer many times, I do try my best to take time and read an entire article, I must be a rare breed. Question, as it relates to running a internet marketing blog what are great ways to find topics to write on? Would love your input on this.

Robert, Great to see your smile here! Glad you found this article helpful. I think titles and subtitles, done well, help readers skim to know if they want to read the entire article. I’m a “whole article” reader too…if it appears I will find my answers on the page. A great question you ask regarding planning content and enticing readers with juicy topics. I would recommend two things: 1) You can Google top topics to write on for every individual niche. There are TONS of articles written on this. 2) A book written by a very smart person that offers checklists and guides available for print/download: “The Content Planner – A Complete Guide To Organize And Share Your Ideas Online,” by Angela Crocker. Published by Self-Counsel Press; Part of their business series. It’s available via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and really anywhere else you would purchase books. Hope that helps. Thank you for reading, and for your thoughtful comment, ~Keri
